HICATEE CONSERVATION EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
BFREE and the Hicatee Awareness Month Planning Committee are pleased to share our collection of fun and engaging educational resources for educators, parents, and hicatee heroes everywhere! Educational materials have been created by scientists, filmmakers, students, educators, and passionate advocates. We encourage the use of these materials in your classrooms and homes! Our goal in sharing these materials is to inspire teachers and students to learn more about Belize’s national treasure, the Hicatee turtle. With your help, we can inspire future generations and leaders to recognize the significant cultural and historical value of the Hicatee.
BFREE, with support from Turtle Survival Alliance, launched Hicatee Awareness Month in 2017. Celebrated every October, this month-long campaign highlights Belize’s national treasure, the hicatee turtle. Now in its seventh year, we encourage everyone to come together as Team Hicatee. The Hicatee is disappearing, but together we can save it!
Educational Resources for the Critically Endangered Hicatee Turtle
We invite educators to develop their own materials to promote the conservation of endangered wildlife like the Hicatee turtle. If you have any questions or if you would like to share materials or curricula that BFREE could help distribute during Hicatee Awareness Month, please email them to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
BFREE would like to thank all 2023 Hicatee Awareness Month Planning Committee members, Ornella Cadle (Committee Chair), Colleen Joseph, Jessie Young, Claudia Matzdorf, Jonathan Dubon, Barney Hall, Abigail Parham-Garbutt, Jaren Serano, Ingrid Rodriguez, and Heather Barrett.
