Looking for a unique and immersive experience for your nature-focused group? 

Visit the Belizean rainforest with a trip to the Belize Foundation for Research & Environmental Education! Plan your excursion with a BFREE staff member to curate the perfect itinerary for your group. Experiences include, but are not limited to a variety of hikes, wildlife exploration, agroforestry demonstrations, and more. Comfortable cabins are provided, along with access to composting toilets and a hot outdoor shower. Approximately 40 acres of the land is under some type of development, including the field station facilities, a 25-acre cacao agroforestry farm, a 2-acre organic orchard, and an extensive trail network.

What types of facilities are available at BFREE?

Lodgings feature the Hammock, a dormitory-style building with six private rooms that sleeps 24 and three private cabins. Facilities also include staff housing, Science Lab, Hicatee Conservation and Research Center (HCRC), office, Chocolate Lab, BFREE Library and Classroom (projector available), herbarium, workshop, composting bathroom facilities, hot/cold showers, helicopter landing site, a canopy observation tower. There is also a kitchen & dining room, with fresh meals cooked by our chef daily. The majority of the ingredients grown right on the BFREE grounds.

How long are visits usually to BFREE?

A minimum stay of three nights is required for all visitors, with trips lasting one week. Visitation is offered during the dryer period of the year from December to June.

Three private cabins are nestled comfortably in the forests and though secluded, are centrally located.

The Hammock

The Hammock was built in 2021. The elevated building connects 6-seperate rooms with an open-air veranda.

The Commons

This two-story multi-purpose building is centrally located in the BFREE garden and is a gathering place for staff and guests.

Fresh Food

Enjoy delicious food, much of which is grown right at BFREE. Visitors and staff eat inside our multi-purpose building.
