About
The Rainforest is Our Passion
Our Mission
Conserving the biodiversity & cultural heritage of Belize.
Our Vision
As the only rainforest field station in this biologically significant region, BFREE enhances learning opportunities and environmental efforts to preserve the last unspoiled wilderness areas of its kind, the Maya Mountains.
Our Story

Recognizing the need for a conservation management program for the Bladen Nature Reserve (BNR), the Belize Foundation for Research and Environmental Education (BFREE) was founded in 1995 to develop and implement a conservation program for the BNR. To achieve this goal, BFREE leased a 1,153 acre privately protected area to establish a biological field station strategically located in the foothills of the Maya Mountains. This location is the gateway to BNR and bordering four national parks and reserves.
